Sailing activity holidays mauritius 9

Optional Adventures

Mauritius is a fascinating paradise, waiting to be explored!  Now, we won’t call it a crime if you spend all your time on the water and the beach - but let’s say it’s not far off.

You come from far, so make the most of your travels. While you can certainly spend every day on the water if you want, you may also choose a number of optional adventures as an alternative if you’d like to explore and experience a little more of the island.

From scuba diving, kayaking and kite surfing to guided tours, and so many other options – see below for a full description of all the options available to you.

*Just for clarity – if you want you may trade a certain number of your sailing days for these excursions and activities. A stay of one week entitles you to 2 days, a 9 or 10 day holiday will give the 3 days, and a two week holiday 4 days. It is, of course, entirely up to you if you want to join in any or all.

Scuba Diving

The term ‘underwater paradise’ might be a cliché, but rarely has it been more appropriate than in the waters of Mauritius. If you are a diver, you simply cannot come to Mauritius without exploring the magnificent underwater landscape. Large areas of natural coral are bursting with sea life, while the warm water is exceptionally clear.

Ash Lacy

'I joined the WW team in 2008 as an instructor mainly teaching mono-hulls. After a season though, I was hooked on the cats and over the past 6 years have gained considerable experience especially on the Hobie16! By 2009 I was asked to be the chief instructor which was a fantastic opportunity for me and I've been in this role ever since, working with Joe Bennett (centre manager for 18 years in Vassiliki) from whom I have learnt so much. To now have set up and be running the brand new WW centre with an elite team of instructors is an amazing opportunity, and between myself and the guys we are sure that you'll have an excellent holiday experience that will have you coming back for more.

Before WW I worked on a muddy puddle in Cheshire for 4 summers teaching sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. Following this I went out to Australia for 2 seasons, also working as a multi-activity instructor and started to use my Senior instructor ticket. Through colleagues out there I ended up on the WW doorstep.

I started kayaking and sailing around the age of 12 and windsurfing by 16. Since learning to windsurf I've been in the industry every summer and loved every minute of it.

I'm really looking forward to introducing you to the sailing, windsurfing and paddle boarding that happens every day on the beautiful Indian Ocean.'

Dave Barker

'I joined the WW team in 2008 prior to spending two seasons as a sailing instructor in Antigua. I was introduced to WW by a colleague and by 2009 I was a senior instructor teaching all abilities and types of boat. When I was offered the opportunity to work in Mauritius I just had to go for it.

Sailing since I was around 8 years old I started with the usual Optimists, Toppers and Lasers, and then moved onto more high performance mono-hulls. Like a lot of people, sailing at WW moved me onto sailing cats, the precision of the 18s and the thrill of the 16s really hooked me. Playing with the Hobie 16s and the RS500s in Mauritius is a lot of fun and I hope you can come and experience this too.

Whilst at WW my high wind sailing has been taken to the edge. I hope you can join me in pushing the limits and taking advantage of our full range of activities from scuba diving to the rum factory tour. Hopefully see you here!'

Steve Spearman

'After 16 seasons teaching windsurfing and sailing across the world, this year I have joined the WW team in Mauritius. I've a broad range of experiences from India to Indonesia, Australia to the Middle East, Europe and now Africa. Having started sailing and windsurfing at a young age in Manchester I realised it was a hobby that I wanted as a career, but not based in the chilly UK!

I am never off the water no matter what the conditions are, whether it's sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding or surfing. I hope to pass on to everyone my passion for water-sports as well as honing my own catamaran skills on the crystal blue waters. If you fancy an escape from sailing in the rain and having to wear dry suits, why not come and visit us in sunny Mauritius with its white beaches, sunny skies and bikini weather.'
